SkimTurf at the Michigan State University Turfgrass Field Day
SkimTurf™ Management joined researchers, superintendents, and turf professionals at the Michigan State University Turfgrass Field Day, held at the Hancock Turfgrass Research Center in East Lansing, Michigan.
The event brought together Michigan State University’s world-leading Turfgrass Program and professionals from across the industry for a day dedicated to turfgrass research, new technologies, and their practical applications in the field.
SkimTurf was proud to participate alongside the MSU team and contribute to the discussions around the growing role of technology and remote sensing in golf course management.
From Research to Precision Turf Management
The day opened with Dr. Jackie Lyn A. Guevara introducing the impact of technology on turfgrass management and the opportunities it creates for more precise agronomic practices.
Her presentation included the use of satellite-derived information to monitor turf conditions at scale and discussed how these insights can support irrigation and fertilization strategies. By combining remote sensing with agronomic expertise, superintendents can gain an additional perspective on conditions across their courses and use objective information to complement field observations.
The discussions continued throughout the Field Day as researchers, industry professionals, and superintendents exchanged perspectives on how emerging technologies can translate into practical applications.
The SkimTurf team was present throughout the event to demonstrate how these concepts can be applied directly within golf course operations. Jared Gray and Nicholas Hoffman worked with attendees to introduce the SkimTurf platform and demonstrate how superintendents can use satellite imagery and turf diagnostics to monitor their courses, identify variability, and support daily management decisions.
Bringing Field Experience Into the Conversation
To close the day, SkimTurf General Manager Frédéric Paczkowski shared practical insights and case studies from golf courses already using the technology.
The presentation connected the research and technology discussed throughout the event with real examples of how satellite-derived information is being incorporated into golf course operations. From monitoring turf conditions across an entire property to supporting irrigation and fertilization decisions, the examples illustrated how precision turf management can become part of a superintendent’s everyday toolkit.
The MSU Turfgrass Field Day also provided an important opportunity for the SkimTurf team to listen, exchange ideas, and learn directly from researchers and turf professionals about the challenges they encounter in the field.
